The French critic and thinker Charles de Saint-Evremond spent much of his life in exile in London. This collection features his letters written to Madame de Gouville and the Abbe de Hautefeuille. The two series of interwoven letters form a single narrative which is matched by the letters of Madame de Sevigne.
